Bug Bowl Cicada Cookie Contest

Bug Bowl has long been famous for cake contests, so for Digital Bug Bowl we wanted to revisit that tradition! In honor of the Brood X Periodical Cicada emergence in 2021, we are having a Cicada Cookie Contest!

Cicada Cookie Contest Rules:

  1. Decorate a cookie to make it look like a 17-year cicada.  
  2. Take a photo of your cookie and tag the Purdue Department of Entomology on Facebook or Twitter, and/or use the hashtag #BugBowl30. 
  3. Photos of cookies may be posted any time from April 12th, 2021 at 12:01 AM EST to May 15th, 2021 at 11:59 PM EST. 
  4. Any kind of cookie can be used. It does not have to be made with cricket flour; actual cicada content is optional!
  5. Cookies can be decorated with any part of the cicada’s life cycle (e.g. eggs, nymphs, exuvia, or adults). 
  6. Cookies will be judged by a panel and six winners will be chosen. Two winners will be chosen for each of the following categories: most creative, most accurate, and most visually appealing. 
  7. The prize is one bag of Chocolate Chirp Cookie Mix from Chirps! (worth approximately $15.99) per winner. 
  8. No purchase necessary. You can enter without buying any specific brand of product.
