Awesome Insect Fact n’ Photo Cards - This deck of flash cards contains information on 150 common insects encountered by beginning collectors. The photos on the front depict one example of each of the 150 insects required in the Career Development Event (CDE) judging contest. Descriptions of the insect, its general biology and life cycle, and where it may be found are printed on the back of the card. Larger orders of insects are grouped according to background color. The smaller orders all have a white background. These distinctions may be valuable when studying the various groups of insects.

Insect Cards

Use the pages to make flashcards by cutting the horizontal lines, gluing one side, then folding in half to make the flashcard. It can be especially effective to have a peer educator (student showing the cards who can see the answers) count to five for each card. If the learner gets it right, it goes in the "know" pile, if it takes a little longer, put the card in the "uncertain" pile, and if they don't know, put the card in the "don't know" pile.
