Sycamore lacebug.

Note white stippling on leaves This stippling is and example of discoloration.

Black fecal spots and immature lacebugs are visible on leaf undersides.

Eastern Ash Plantbug

Note discoloration of leaves on this tree.

Lacebug close up.

Note adult lacebugs with white reticulate wings near the midrib. Undersides of this hackberry leaf has many black fecal spots.

Plantbug Sillouhette.

Holding the ash leaves up to the light reveals the immature plantbugs that discolored the leaves.

Lacebug eggs.

Note how these wineflask shaped eggs are laid in the leaf surface.

Spider mites life cyle.

Spider mites will discolor leaves by leaving a stippling that closely resembles that of lacebugs. Spider mites do not leave black fecal spots. Many spider mites will leave webs.
