- Sometimes water that collects in tree holes can support larvae of the "eastern tree hole mosquito," Aedes triseriatus.
- Females do not disperse. They seek blood meals under the forest canopy, typically from chipmunks, but also from humans. They are capable of transmitting the virus that causes LaCrosse encephalitis, a serious disease of children.
- To protect yourself from mosquito bites, avoid being outdoors at these times and wear an approved repellent.
- Situate swings, sandboxes, and other playground equipment away from the forest canopy, and do not use tires as a playground apparatus.
