Dermestid Beetle damage
(John Obermeyer, Purdue University)
spacer
Common Name: Dermestid Beetle - damage
See also: adult | larva

Scientific Name: Dermestidae: several species

Status: pest of stored products

Damaging Stage: larval and adult

Action Threshold: In stored products such as foods or preserved animal by-products, a single dermestid beetle is a problem because of its high reproductive potential and the potential contamination that an infestation can cause.

Management: If dermestid beetles are present, removal of the food source and extensive cleaning is usually the best approach. Residual insecticides are also required when infestations are severe.
