The problems associated with pest management and pesticide use in public facilities has been of particular concern to parents, students and staff in public schools. Methods of managing pests with very minimal inputs of pesticides have been well researched and are now ready for application in schools and other people sensitive sites. Through collabroations with scientists throughout the country and government agencies, an IPM Technical Resource Center at Purdue University has been established to assist schools and childcare facilities in developing pest management programs that will:
- Effectively control pests that may threaten children's health
- Utilize a variety of pest control methods including non-chemical strategies
- Minimizing the potential for pesticide exposure of children or other building occupants
We work with pest control professionals as well as schools and childcare programs to provide easy access to technical information, tools, materials, and training in Integrated Pest management for children's environments. (See the IPMIS site)
We also train those working in schools and other public venues to use IPM methods for managing pests. A correspondence courses is available to facilitate remote training of those desiring training in public areas.
