In June, 2002, Purdue Entomology partnered with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Entomology and Plant Pathology, to create the position of Exotic Insects Education Coordinator. The Exotic Insects Program provides educational outreach to Indiana citizens and businesses concerned about non-native forest pests such as gypsy moth and emerald ash borer.
The CAPS (Cooperative Agricultural Pest Survey) Program is managed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ). In Indiana, the CAPS program works in conjunction with USDA-APHIS-PPQ, Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Division of Entomology and Plant Pathology, and Purdue University. Through the CAPS Program, surveys are conducted to detect or delimit exotic plant pests - insects, weeds, and diseases that are not known to occur in the U.S. or have been recently introduced through U.S. ports of entry or other pathways. CAPS surveys and other monitoring activities strive to protect agriculture and natural resources and to prevent economic losses.

Emerald Ash Borer Cost Calculator
The Emerald Ash Borer Cost Calculator helps you estimate out-of-pocket expenses associated with a particular management strategy over a 25 year period for your trees. The calculator uses the tree sizes you provide in your inventory of ash trees to costs associated with insecticide applications and tree removal. The model adjusts the size of your ash trees over time because it assumes that the ash trees you treat with insecticide will survive and grow.Authors: Dr. Cliff Sadof
