IPM Pilot Project Awards
|

|
The IPM Technical Resource Center at Purdue University has recently complete a two-year project funded by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) to conduct pilot Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs in 2 school corporations and 4 childcare centers in Indiana. Integrated Pest Management, or IPM, is a process for achieving long term, environmentally sound pest suppression using a variety of control methods. IPM emphasizes non-chemical controls, such as reducing pest access to food, water and living spaces, and sealing up pest entry routes into buildings. Pesticides are used only when a confirmed pest problem is present. Preventative pesticide treatments are replaced with careful monitoring for pests. If a pesticide is needed to control a pest, the least-hazardous but effective pesticide is used. An awards ceremony was held on November 14, to recognize most of the childcare facilities that participated in pilot IPM programs. Read the press release here.
