Know a student interested in entomology? The 4-H Round Up and Career Day provides middle school, junior and senior high school students an opportunity to learn more about insects, discover what entomologists do, and learn what we are doing in the Department of Entomology at Purdue University.

 


Butterfly Encounter - July 20, 2013

Butterfly Encounter

Butterfly enthusiasts of all ages and expert levels are invited to visit the Evonik Degussa Wildlife Habitat Area in Lafayette, Indiana for a celebration of butterflies on Saturday, July 21, 2012. This family-friendly event celebrates the beauty and diversity of Indiana butterflies and no previous butterfly knowledge is necessary. Everyone from the novice to the expert is welcome and encouraged to attend. Entomologists will help identify the common butterflies of Indiana and discuss butterfly biology, including the importance of biodiversity and habitat conservation for endangered species. The Wildlife Habitat Area is located at the Tippecanoe County Laboratories site,1650 Lilly Road in Lafayette, Indiana. This program is sponsored by Evonik and the Department of Entomology at Purdue University. Insectaganza 2013 - Tuesday, October 8, 2013

Insectaganza

Each October, Science on Six Legs: An Insectaganza of Education provides 1,000 fifth graders from the West Lafayette, Lafayette and Tippecanoe School Corporations, along with area parochial schools, the opportunity to experience a full day of insect education on the Purdue University campus. Future scientists are nurtured as they learn about the discipline of entomology through grasshopper dissection labs, the game of "Insectingo", insect theater, and a forensic science activity.

4-H Entomology Science Workshop 2013 - TBA

4H Entomology Science Workshop

The Department of Entomology, in collaboration with 4-H and Youth Development, will hold the fifth annual Entomology Science Workshop for Youth. Students that participate will travel to the Purdue University campus to lean about insects, interact with youth from across the state, and get acquainted with Purdue University and faculty in the Entomology Department.

 

 


Bug Bowl - April 12 & 13, 2014

Bug Bowl

Bug Bowl is a part of the larger campus event called Spring Fest, which is billed as "the lighter side of higher education." Highest attendance was estimated in 2005 at 40,000 visitors! Bug Bowl offers the general public an opportunity to participate in a variety of insect related activities that reinforce the importance of insects in our environment. Components of this event include: the Insect Art Contest, Insect Petting Zoo, Running of the Roaches at Roachill Downs, Arthropod Observation Room, Insect Crafts and Face Painting, Invasive Species Exhibit, Quiz Bowl, Insects as Food demonstrations, Apiculture Exhibit and Honey Tasting Room, display of the winning 4H insect collections from the Indiana State Fair, The Bug Bowl Follies, and an Insect Cake Decorating Contest.
