Living and Working in a Quarantined Area – What Are the Rules?

Because of a federal quarantine managed by USDA APHIS PPQ, regulated ash wood may not be moved out of the federally quarantine area. Firewood may move between federally quarantined states in the quarantined area if this is allowed by each state. For example, you may move ash wood between Indiana and Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky and Indiana and Michigan. But for movement between Illinois and Indiana, you cannot move ash wood from each states' quarantine counties to non-quarantined counties of those states. The ash wood can move from/between Illinois and Indiana quarantined counties. It can also move from/between Illinois and Indiana non quarantined counties. It is best to check with each destination state Department of Agriculture for their rules or contact IDNR Division of Entomology & Plant Pathology for assistance and the latest information on quarantine status.
