Tippecanoe County Butterfly Encounter Totals
Evonik Degussa Wildlife Habitat
There are 150 species of butterflies reported from Indiana, 72 of which are known from Tippecanoe Co. As a result of our annual Butterfly Encounter and additional collecting trips, a total of 43 species are now known from the Evonik Degussa Wildlife Habitat (EWHA).
We wish to thank everyone who participated in the 2010 EWHA Butterfly Encounter. Thanks to you, the event was a big success. Below are listed the count totals for the seven years we have been conducting the survey. This years overall total was fairly typical. The numbers for some species were up, while others were down. The unusual weather patterns this year and the brief rain we encountered during the count undoubted affected the number of individuals for some species as well as our overall count totals.
*Results for 2011 were from Prophetstown State Park. Evonik habitat area was closed for construction in 2011.
