2013 Tippecanoe County Butterfly Encounter
Saturday, July 20 at the Evonik Corporation,
Tippecanoe Laboratories Wildlife Habitat Area
Butterfly enthusiasts of all ages and expert levels are invited to visit the Evonik Tippecanoe Laboratories Wildlife Habitat Area at 1650 Lilly Road in Lafayette, Indiana for a celebration of butterflies on Saturday, July 20, 2013. The Butterfly Encounter is sponsored by Evonik and the Department of Entomology at Purdue University. It is a family-friendly event celebrating the beauty and diversity of Indiana butterflies. No previous butterfly knowledge is necessary. Everyone from the novice to the expert is welcome and encouraged to attend. Entomologists will help identify the common butterflies of Indiana and discuss butterfly biology, including the importance of habitat and conservation to endangered species and biodiversity. Buttterfly Encounter Schedule
1:00 - 1:30 PM: Welcome and introductions followed by a short tutorial on the butterflies of Indiana.
1:30 - 3:00 PM: Break into groups and commence the count.
3:00 - 4:00 PM: Tabulation of butterfly count results.
Drinks and snacks for participants will be provided by Evonik.
There will be no rain date for the event should weather cause cancellation.
