Welcome to Youth and Entomology

What young person living in Indiana has not spent summer evenings capturing lightning beetles and stuffing them inside glass jars and afterwards lay pondering upon how and why a lightning beetle produces light?

The wonder of insects is all around us. The diversity of both form and behavior of insects is amazing. Insects are a natural curiosity of all youth.  Curiosity leads to fascination and fascination to discovery.

This site is dedicated to assisting youth and others interested in discovering insects by providing the resources needed to get started and to achieve success.
Information and materials presented in this site will assist participants in preparing 4-H insect collections for entry into county and state fairs and prepare students for entomology judging competitions in Area and State - Career Development Events (CDE).

This site will also provide suggestions on where to learn more about how to capture the curiosity, fascination and discovery of these tiny but so very important animals.

When closely examined, it is easy to discover that insects truly are number #1.
